Build With God

Decide Before the Fear Speaks

Decide Before the Fear Speaks thumbnail
Scripture:
Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.
Isaiah 65:24

Observation:
God reveals His attentiveness and initiative. He is not distant or reactive. He answers before we finish forming the words. He hears while we are still speaking. This is a picture of closeness, readiness, and decisive care.

Application:
I have wrestled with fear of failure more than I like to admit. There have been seasons in business where I delayed a decision because I wanted more data, more clarity, more certainty. In reality, I was afraid of getting it wrong.

I remember one specific product launch. We had built the software, tested it, and had early traction. But I kept hesitating on the final pricing and go to market strategy. I told myself I was being wise. What I was really doing was protecting my ego. As long as I did not decide, I could not fail.

Indecision cost us momentum. The team felt it. Energy slowed. Opportunities cooled.

Isaiah reminds me that God is not paralyzed. He answers before we call. He hears while we are still speaking. If the Lord of the universe is that attentive and engaged, why do I lead as if I am alone?

This is where courage becomes a practical discipline. Courage is not loud. It is not reckless. It is the quiet willingness to move forward with the information I have, trusting God with what I do not.

In business and leadership, this means I make the best decision I can with integrity and clarity, then I move. I do not endlessly tweak a system that is 80 percent ready. I do not avoid a hard conversation with an underperforming team member because it feels uncomfortable. I do not sit on a strategic partnership opportunity because I fear it might not scale.

God hears before I finish speaking. That means He is already present in the decision room. Already aware of the risks. Already ahead of the outcome.

As a husband and father, this matters too. My kids do not need a perfect dad. They need a decisive one. My wife does not need me to analyze every possibility for months. She needs me to pray, seek counsel, and then lead.

Courage in leadership is an act of trust. It says, God, You are attentive. You are not surprised. I will act faithfully and let You shape the results.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You hear me before I even call.
Give me courage to lead without fear of failure.
Help me trust that You are already at work in the outcomes.
Teach me to decide with wisdom and move with faith.

Build With God,
Bill

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Isaiah 65:24 teach about God and our decisions?

Isaiah 65:24 teaches that God is attentive and proactive, not distant or slow to respond. He hears before we finish speaking and answers before we fully call. That means we are never making decisions alone. In leadership, this changes the posture of our hearts. We do not have to stall in fear, waiting for perfect clarity. God is already present in the uncertainty. His attentiveness gives us the confidence to act with integrity and trust Him with the outcome, knowing He is engaged long before we feel ready.

How do I lead my business when I am afraid of making the wrong decision?

You lead by making the best decision you can with the information you have and trusting God with what you do not. Fear often disguises itself as caution or the need for more data. In reality, prolonged hesitation can drain momentum and weaken team confidence. If God hears before you call, then He is already aware of the risks and outcomes tied to your choice. Courage in business is not recklessness. It is disciplined action rooted in prayer, wise counsel, and integrity, followed by forward movement.

Why is courage a spiritual discipline for leaders?

Courage is a spiritual discipline because it requires trust in God rather than protection of your own ego. Many leaders delay decisions not because they lack information, but because they fear failure or criticism. Choosing to move forward faithfully exposes your heart. It reveals whether you trust your reputation more than you trust God. Over time, decisive obedience builds resilience, humility, and dependence on the Lord. Courage formed this way is quiet and steady. It grows through repeated acts of faith under pressure.

What does decisive leadership look like at home as a husband and father?

Decisive leadership at home means seeking God, gathering wisdom, and then taking responsibility for direction. Your wife and children do not need flawless analysis. They need steady presence and clear movement. When you delay every choice out of fear, your family feels the uncertainty. Trusting that God hears before you call allows you to lead with calm confidence. You can make thoughtful decisions about finances, schedules, and priorities without obsessing over every possible outcome, knowing God is already ahead of you.

What is one practical way to overcome indecision rooted in fear?

One practical way is to set a short, defined window to decide and document the next concrete step. Instead of endlessly revisiting the same issue, pray for wisdom, review the key facts, and commit to a clear action within a set time frame. Writing the decision forces clarity and accountability. This practice trains you to act in faith rather than stall in uncertainty. It reinforces the truth that God is already attentive to your situation, freeing you to move forward with discipline and trust.
