Build With God
Held When I Step Forward
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.
John 10:28
Observation:
Jesus speaks with certainty about security. Eternal life is not fragile or conditional. The grip that matters most is His, not mine. This verse is not about avoiding risk. It is about knowing who holds the outcome when I step into it.
Application:
I like guarantees. In business, I look for clear signals before I commit. Signed contracts. Forecasted revenue. A little proof that the next step will work.
But some of the most important decisions I have made did not come with certainty. I remember launching a product when we had just enough cash for a few months. The data was incomplete. The team was tired. Waiting for perfect clarity would have meant never shipping at all. I had to move forward without the guarantees I wanted.
This verse reminds me that my leadership is not ultimately secured by my planning. It is secured by His hand. That does not make me reckless. It makes me faithful.
Faithfulness is the character trait I come back to here. Faithfulness is not dramatic. It is steady obedience when the outcome is still blurry. It shows up when I make the hard call to invest in a hire before the workload is overwhelming. It shows up when I choose honest marketing over inflated promises, even if growth is slower. It shows up when I keep my word to my wife and kids after a long day, instead of hiding behind more work.
Jesus does not promise that no one will challenge me, criticize me, or compete with me. He promises that no one can snatch me out of His hand. That frees me to lead without fear driving every decision. I can build systems with wisdom, steward finances carefully, and still act when faith is required.
In practice, this means I can stop waiting for absolute certainty before taking the next right step. I can pray, seek counsel, do the work of thinking clearly, and then move. The security of my life and calling does not depend on flawless execution. It depends on who is holding me.
That truth has changed how I lead under pressure. It has helped me release control when outcomes are uncertain and focus instead on obedience, integrity, and care for the people entrusted to me.
Prayer:
Lord, remind me that my security rests in Your hand.
Help me lead with faithfulness when certainty is not available.
Give me courage to take the next right step without fear.
Teach me to trust You more than my plans.
Amen.
Build With God,
Bill

Frequently Asked Questions
What does John 10:28 mean when it says no one can snatch us out of His hand?
John 10:28 means that our ultimate security rests in Jesus, not in our circumstances or performance. Eternal life is not fragile or dependent on flawless execution. For a leader, that changes everything. It means market swings, criticism, competition, and even failure do not have the final word over your identity or calling. The promise is not that life will be easy, but that you are held. When you understand that the grip that matters most is His, you can stop leading from fear and start leading from trust, stability, and steady obedience.
How does knowing I am secure in Christ change the way I lead or take risks in business?
Knowing you are secure in Christ allows you to take wise risks without being driven by panic. It does not make you reckless or careless with planning. It frees you from paralysis. In business, there are moments when data is incomplete and certainty is unavailable. Security in Jesus gives you the courage to pray, seek counsel, evaluate responsibly, and then move forward. Your leadership is not ultimately secured by perfect forecasts or flawless strategy. It is secured by who holds you. That confidence produces steadiness under pressure and integrity in decision making.
Why is faithfulness more important than certainty in seasons of pressure?
Faithfulness matters more than certainty because certainty is rarely available when decisions matter most. Pressure exposes whether you are driven by fear or anchored in trust. Faithfulness is steady obedience when outcomes are still blurry. It looks like choosing honesty over inflated promises, making the hard hire before everything feels comfortable, and keeping commitments even when you are tired. Character is formed when you act on what is right without needing guaranteed results. Over time, that steady obedience builds integrity, resilience, and a leadership foundation that does not collapse when uncertainty increases.
How does trusting that I am held by Christ affect my marriage and fatherhood?
Trusting that you are held by Christ helps you stay present at home instead of hiding in work. When your identity and security are not tied to constant achievement, you are less likely to sacrifice your family for one more task. This security gives you margin to keep your word to your wife and children, even after a long day. It reminds you that leadership at home is not about control but about care. A husband and father who rests in Christ can lead with patience, consistency, and emotional steadiness rather than stress and distraction.
What is one practical way to move forward when I am delaying a decision out of fear?
One practical step is to identify the next faithful action instead of demanding full clarity about the outcome. Start by praying for wisdom, then seek counsel and review the facts with honesty. After that, define the smallest responsible step you can take this week. It might be scheduling the conversation, making the hire, adjusting the offer, or setting a clear boundary. You are not responsible for controlling every result. You are responsible for obedience and integrity in the next step. Acting from trust rather than fear builds momentum and strengthens your leadership.
